Apple Crumble
Apple Crumble
A family favorite! Our children and grandchildren always request this dessert when they are home visiting.
Preparation: 25 minutes
Serving size: a nine inch pan
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Ingredients for Apple Filling:
3 lbs of Golden Delicious apples, peeled and sliced thinly. Approximately 10 medium apples.
½ cup of sugar, organic or raw
½ tsp cinnamon
¼ tsp nutmeg
¼ tsp allspice
1/8 tsp of cloves
Ingredients for Crumble Topping:
½ cup of whole wheat flour
½ cup rolled oats
¼ cup of coconut
1/8 cup of organic or raw sugar
¼ tsp of baking soda
¼ tsp of baking powder
¼ cup non-hydrogenated margarine, melted
1/8 cup of milk: rice, soy or cow’s
Procedure:
1. Cook apples, sugar and spices on a medium heat, stirring occasionally, for 15 minutes or until soft.
2. Mix the grains, coconut, sugar and leavening and then pour in the margarine and mix gently. Add the milk and mix.
3. Place cooked apples in a 9 inch pan and sprinkle the crumble topping over the apples.
4. Bake for 20 minutes or until nicely browned. Let cool and scoop into bowls and serve.
