Breaded Tofu Fillet
Breaded Tofu Filets
Baking your protein helps to reduce the calories and make it a bit healthier. Changing out your meat with tofu can up the health factor even more. Breaded Tofu Filets are a great recipe to try out for your family that are full of flavor and go well with a number of different sides. Tofu is unique in that it takes on the flavors that it is cooked in, which means that it can be prepared with any spices and flavors. Breading it gives it a little crunch and gives it additional flavor that will appeal to the entire family.
Your first step is to preheat your oven to 400-degrees. By doing this, you ensure that your oven is at the right temperature. While you are waiting on your oven to preheat, you will want to mix the bread crumbs with the olive oil and the Herbs de Provence. You want to make sure that the bread crumbs are all moistened with the olive oil to ensure that they will crunch and brown in the oven.
Mince your green onions and garlic. Coat the bottom of your baking dish with olive oil. Add veggie broth, Herbs de Provence, green onion, and your garlic. The herbs help to continue the flavor throughout the dish that you have used in the breading of the tofu. Balsamic vinegar is added to help bring out all of the flavors so that you do not have to use as much salt. Dust with pepper to season the entire mixture and you are ready for the next step.
The tofu will be sliced in eight pieces like a filet and then you will place them on top of the veggie broth mixture. Put about two tablespoons of breading mixture on top of each filet. The breading will help the top to crisp up and if you get any of the breading in the veggie broth, it will make a sort of gravy in the broth that you will love.
Cover your baking pan with foil and place in a preheated oven for 15 minutes. The foil allows it to get hotter inside of the pan without overcooking and drying out the bread crumbs. After 15 minutes, take the foil off and allow it to cook for 10 more minutes. This allows the bread crumbs to crunch up to add texture and bite to your tofu.
Now you are ready to serve. Some serving ideas include steamed veggies with a side of rice or fettuccini, or you can go with mashed potatoes and a veggie.
