Gluten Free and Tasty Gravy

Gluten Free and Tasty Gravy

Preparation and cooking time approximately 20 minutes

Ingredients:

1 cup of garbanzo flour
¼ cup of non-hydrogenated margarine
½ tsp powdered sage
½ tsp powdered thyme
½ tsp powdered savory
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp black pepper
3 ½ cups of water
¼ cup of Tamari soy sauce

In a saucepan, toast the margarine, herbs and spices for a minute or two on a medium heat
Add the garbanzo flour and toast, stirring constantly for about 4 minutes or until the flour starts to become a deeper color and is fragrant. Be careful not to burn the flour.

Mix the water and soy sauce together and slowly pour a half a cup at a time into the saucepan, stirring constantly.
There will be lumps in the gravy so mix vigorously with a whisk. Continue mixing until all the water/ Tamari soy sauce mixture has been added and there are no more lumps.

The gravy will be boiling so be careful not to get burned.
If gravy thickens before you use it simply add a little more water, stir and reheat.

Goes great with our Twice Cooked Tofu, over mashed potatoes or on a biscuit!

Cook’s Note:
Use Tamari soy sauce as it does not contain any wheat and is gluten free.
